Synopsis for "The Rival Flash!"
While trying to stop a robbery, the Flash is surprised to find that his opponents all have super speed and are being led by a black garbed figure in a similar Flash-style costume called the Rival. While trying to stop the Rival and his minions, the Flash is doused with a chemical that strips him of his super-speed, and is taken prisoner. Locked in a room with chemicals, the Flash recreates the gas that originally gave him his powers and he defeats the Rival and his men. Unmasking the Rival, the Flash reveals him to be a fellow professor at Midwestern University, Edward Clariss. In police custody, Clariss reveals that he overheard a clue that led him to create his own hard water formula to gain super-speed. When asked if he knows who the Flash is, Clariss figures he's a student, which relieves the Flash that his identity has not been figured out.

- The Atom appears next in Sensation Comics #86.
- Black Canary chronologically appears next in DC Special #3.
- The Flash chronologically appears next at his wedding as presented in Flash (Volume 2) #161.
- Hawkman appears next in All-Star Comics #45.
