Synopsis for "Into the Underworld"
Flash and Nightwing investigate the ruins of the Combine's headquarters after they apparently exploded with Starfire inside. They are surprised to find that she and the Combine are nowhere to be found, leading Wally to assume that they teleported away, taking Starfire with them. Flash tries to pick up a police radio signal on his transmitters, but gets heavy static instead. He decides that he and Nightwing should pay a visit to Piper before looking for Starfire.
Meanwhile, the Combine has kidnapped Starfire and are using her starbolt energy as a source of power for their hidden facility. She is surprised to know that they are aware of Tamaraneans, and they respond that they know all about her and her homeworld.
Piper suggests that Wally and Dick question Jack Giacomo, leader of the Combine's rivals about the location of the Combine's other hideout. He suggests that Wally's radio transmitter failed because of a low-level electromagnetic field, which may have been caused by the teleportation. He fixes it, and tosses it back as Wally and Dick rush back out the door.
Back at Wally's house, his girlfriend Linda Park and his ex-girlfriend Frances Kane attempt to have a civil conversation. Linda demands to know whether or not Frances still loves Wally, but the question is dangerous, because if Frances becomes emotionally upset, her violent alternate personality could be awakened.
Flash appears suddenly in the restaurant where Jack Giacomo is eating. While Flash takes out the thugs and then eats all of their entrées, Nightwing questions Giacomo about the Combine's hiding place. Giacomo doesn't know, but he suggests that they must still be in Keystone City. He claims that it seems like they dug a deep hole and pulled it in after them - an idea which sets off alarms in Wally's mind.
Flash and Nightwing check out the former underground lair of Turtle, working on Wally's hunch that the Combine could have refurbished it. At the bottom of a long passage, they find a steel door, and behind it, they are horrified to see what has happened to Starfire.
Nightwing's shout of her name alerts all the guards to their presence, and Wally is forced into action. He speeds past all of them, tearing apart the device into which Starfire is strapped, piece by piece. His efforts cut the power to the building, and the Combine's leader decides to initiate their endgame plan.
With Starfire freed, Flash hunts down the Combine's leader, who states that his gang plans to leave Keystone, and that they've set up a powerful bomb to go off in 15 minutes, to prevent him from stopping them. The bomb is teleported to a random location within the city's limits, and Wally is left with just 15 minutes to search the entire city for it before it goes off.
