History
Friday the 13th is an unofficial appellation which refers to the continuity of the Friday the 13th limited series and its subsequent satellite titles. Friday the 13th shares some continuity with A Nightmare on Elm Street as demonstrated in the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash limited series. The central figure of this reality is Jason Voorhees, a vicious serial killer who terrorizes the region of Camp Crystal Lake. Voorhees is distinguished by his cracked hockey mask and his trademark machete.
Camp Crystal Lake
The primary setting of this reality is Camp Crystal Lake. Also known as "Camp Blood", Camp Crystal Lake is the territorial hunting ground for psychopath Jason Voorhees. The campground first opened up in 1935. In 1936, a fire erupted in the counselors' bunkhouse and it burned to the ground. Five counselors were burned to death, but no clues as to the origin of the fire were ever discovered. In 1957, Pamela Voorhees was working at the campground and brought along her mentally disabled son Jason. In 1957, Jason Voorhees ventured into Crystal Lake unattended and drowned. Whether or not Jason actually "died" in the drowning incident is unknown. What is known is that the counselors responsible for watching over him were making love in a cabin when they should have been attending to him. In 1958, Pamela Voorhees learned the identities of the absent counselors and murdered them. The camp was shut down soon after. In 1962, Camp Crystal Lake was re-opened, but the management soon discovered that the ground water was toxic, prompting them to shut it down again. At this time, the mutilated corpses of various animals were found in the woods and the lake trail surrounding the camp. In 1980, Steve Christy re-opened the camp once again. Pamela Voorhees, still insane over the death of her son, came to Crystal Lake and murdered several newly hired counselors including Christy himself. One of the counselors, Alice Hardy, survived the massacre and beheaded Pamela Voorhees on the shore of the lake. By this time, Jason Voorhees, having somehow survived the '57 drowning incident was now an adult living in the woods surrounding the campground. Upon learning of his mother's death, he sought vengeance and murdered Alice Hardy. Over the span of years, Jason Voorhees continued to haunt the forests of Camp Crystal Lake, slaughtering anyone who dared to intrude on his territory.
Points of Interest
- 24 7 Diner
- The 24 7 Diner was located on one of the few highways leading towards Camp Crystal Lake. Presumably, the diner is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Stoner camp counselors Jerry and Nate stopped at the diner looking for a ride to the campground. While there, they encountered a seemingly crazed teen who implied that they would soon die. As it turned out, the boy's prediction proved correct.
- Cadiz
- Cadiz was a mining community in Ohio. This was where Elias Voorhees and his young bride Pamela lived inside of their small trailer. In September of 1947 Pamela murdered her husband and deposited his remains in a nearby pond. [1]
- Crystal Lake
- Crystal Lake is located in the center of the Camp Crystal Lake campground. This was the sight of the 1957 drowning of Jason Voorhees. The lake appears to be haunted by the spirits of dozens of people who have met an untimely death over the years, giving rise to the theory that the campground suffers from a "death curse". Note: Crystal Lake also refers to the township in which the campground is located.
- Lake Trail
- This was a narrow dirt tract that encircled Crystal Lake. It was commonly used for joggers and bicyclists, though more recently it has been used as a place where terror-stricken counselors fled for their lives from the psychopath Jason Voorhees.
- Rec Center
- The Recreational center at Camp Crystal Lake was one of several buildings in need of repair. Senior counselor Mike Burns assigned Ryan, Rico and Brian Evans the task of repairing the roof. The center later became a temporary safe haven when the junior counselors discovered that they were being hunted and systematically killed by Jason Voorhees. They attempted to secure the building, but Jason managed to pierce their defenses killing a girl named Sasha in the process.
Residents
- Alice Hardy
- Alice Hardy was a junior counselor at Camp Crystal Lake during the time when the campground was managed by Steve Christie. Alice was the only counselor to survive the massacre wrought by the vengeful Pamela Voorhees. She beheaded Pamela on the shore of Crystal Lake with her own machete. A short time later, Pamela's son Jason avenged his mother's death by murdering Alice in her home. [2]
- Alisha Jackson
- Alisha Jackson was the girlfriend of an hispanic man named Rico. Alisha and Rico agreed to take a summer job working at Camp Crystal Lake so they could afford enough money to buy their own place. Alisha found herself the object of unwanted attention when two campground employees named Nate and Jerry spied upon her while making love to her boyfriend. Alisha was soon murdered by the psychopathic killer Jason Voorhees. [3]
- Annie
- Annie was a young woman who accepted a job at Camp Crystal Lake. On her way to the campground she hitched a ride with a man named Enos. She also had an encounter with Ralph, the town crazy. Enos drove her half of the way to her destination, whereupon she caught a ride with another motorist Pamela Voorhees. Upon getting into the jeep, Annie had no idea that Pamela was actually a psychopathic killer. Pamela told Annie the story of her life, and the tragic drowning of her young son Jason. When Annie realized that Pamela intended on killing her, she leaped from the jeep and tried to run away. Pamela caught up with her and slashed her across the throat with a knife. [4]
- Brian Evans
- Davie Faulkner
- Davie Faulkner was a young boy who received a lot of derision and ridicule due to his physical deformities. He was sent to Camp Crystal Lake in the hopes of starting over and making new friends. Davie discovered another resident of the campground who shared his history of pain and humiliation - Jason Voorhees. [5]
- Elias Voorhees
- Elias Voorhees worked as a miner in Cadiz, Ohio during the 1940s. A surly and abusive man, he would often take his frustrations out on his young wife Pamela. Though some aspect of Pam's persona understood Elias' behavior, inwardly she was guided by a voice that instructed her to kill. Pamela personified the voice as that of her unborn child Jason. Elias was unaware that his wife was pregnant, and Pam was certain that if he learned about the pregnancy, he would beat her mercilessly. Elias never had the chance to prove this fear one way or the other. In September of 1947, Elias was sleeping in his bed when Pamela butchered him with an ax. She loaded the dismembered pieces into a pick-up truck and discarded them. [6]
- Enos
- Enos was a truck driver who lived in a town outside of Crystal Lake. In 1980, he offered to drive a young camp counselor named Annie to her new job at the Crystal Lake campground. Before getting into the vehicle, a local doomsayer named Ralph accosted them, warning Annie that Crystal Lake had a "death curse". Enos shooed Ralph away and drove Annie for a leg of her journey before dropping her off. Note: Based on a character featured in the Friday the 13th film. [7]

- Jason Voorhees
- Jason Voorhees is a vicious serial killer who haunts the territory surrounding Camp Crystal Lake.
- Jerry White
- Jerry White was a young man from Seattle who accepted a job at Camp Crystal Lake with his friend Nate Hobbs to make some money to finance their ghettotech band. Jerry was distinguished from his friend by his bright purple Mohawk. En route to the campground, they stopped at the 24 7 Diner in the hopes of getting a ride. Failing that, they proceeded to get to the campground on foot. Their presence caused a bit of controversy when they were caught peeping on co-workers Alisha Jackson and her boyfriend Rico having sex in their cabin. The incident caused Jerry so much excitement and agitation that he urinated himself. Later that evening, Nate and he were resting on a raft in the middle of the lake when they were attacked by Jason Voorhees. Jason stabbed Jerry in the face with a pot roast sticker, killing him instantly. He then beheaded him and left his severed head inside of co-worker Ryan's automobile. Note: This version of Jerry White is not to be confused with the son of Daily Planet managing editor Perry White as seen in the mainstream DC Universe. [8]
- Laurie Campbell
- Laurei Campbell was a young, blond-haired woman from Springwood, Ohio who found herself tormented by both Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. Being one of the few residents of Springwood who realized Jason Voorhees was responsible for a string of murders there and not Freddy, Lori and her boyfriend Will Rollins, along with their friends, made several attempts to stop the latter's return to full power. After a failed attempt at retrieving the dream suppressant Hypnocil, Lori volunteered to enter the dream world and confront Freddy there and bring him to Earth; after nearly being raped by Freddy and learning he was responsible for the death of her mother as a child, Lori successfully forced him into entering the real world, where he and the reawakened Jason battled at Crystal Lake. Lori blew up the dock the two were fighting on with gasoline and propane, and later decapitated Freddy, whose body fell into the depths of Crystal Lake, along with Jason. Five years later, Laurie and Will returned to Camp Crystal Lake to allay Laurie's fears that Jason and Freddy might still be alive. While investigating the woods around Crystal Lake, Laurie encounterd Jason in a partially constructed condo after finding Will's disemboweled body inside of it. Fleeing from Jason, Laurie was injured after Jason hurled a metal rod at him. Despite the injury, Laurie managesd to get the upper hand against Jason when she found a handheld circular saw and attacked him with it. Laurie managed to knock Jason out a window and rushed outside to finish him off, only to be met at the door by him. Before Lori could attack him again, Jason killed her with a swift blow to the face from his machete and proceeded to take her and Will's bodies to his shack in the woods. Note: In the film Freddy vs. Jason, Laurie's name was spelled Lori. [9] [10]
- Maggie
- Maggie was a young woman who suffered great abuse at the hands of nearly everyone around. She finally decided that she had enough and decided to exact revenge by evoking the actions of legendary serial killer Jason Voorhees. This ultimately brought her to Camp Crystal Lake where she discovered that the legend of Jason Voorhees was very much ground in reality. [11]
- Martha
- Martha and her husband Richard were driving their recreational vehicle down the highway when they came upon the bleeding and panic-stricken Sally Thomas. They stopped and took Sally to a nearby hospital. [12]
- Mike Burns
- Mike Burns was hired by Trevor Gaines to work as the senior counselor at Camp Crystal Lake in 2007. Though he was strict with his junior counselors in terms of their workload, he was lenient when it came to how they chose to spend their spare time. Mike Burns had a deep appreciation for serial killer lore, in particular, the legends surrounding that of Jason Voorhees. Mike developed a fondness for another counselor, Sally Thomas, but Sally made it clear to him that she was not interested. When two of the junior counselors turned up missing, Mike and Sally took his truck out on the road to look for them. The vehicle blew a tire in the middle of a rainstorm and Mike got out to fix it. Jason Voorhees appeared and killed Mike by shoving his body beneath the suspended metal wheel base then lowering the jack, dropping the car on top of him. [13]

Their presence caused a bit of controversy when they were caught peeping on co-workers Alisha Jackson and her boyfriend Rico having sex in their cabin. Later that evening, Jerry and he were resting on a raft in the middle of the lake when they were attacked by Jason Voorhees. Jason stabbed Nate in the face with a large steak knife, killing him instantly. He then beheaded him and left his severed head inside of co-worker Ryan's automobile. [15]
- Pamela Voorhees
- Pamela Voorhees was the mother of Jason Voorhees and was responsible for several deaths at Camp Crystal Lake between 1958 and 1980. In her final murder spree, Pamela lost her life when would-be victim Alice Hardy beheaded her with her own machete.

Sasha was murdered by Jason Voorhees who split her head in half with a blow from his machete. [18]
- Sally Thomas
- Spirits of Crystal Lake
- The souls of an innumerable amount of children, doubtless victims of drowning or acts of violence, reside beneath the water of Crystal Lake. Over the span of years, several accounts have been documented of bathers suffering nightmares or waking visions wherein they see a spectral phantasm rising from the lake or walking on the water. Their presence lends credence to the notion that Crystal Lake suffers from a "death curse". The origin of these disembodied souls is steeped in mystery, but its foundation can be traced back to 1850 when a group of traders attacked a tribe of Tillamook Indians. Blaming the Tillamook for spreading a variety of diseases, one of the traders murdered the Tillamook shaman and threw his body into the lake. It is said that ever since, the lake itself has become a haunted resevoir in search of a vessel with which to house its unending hatred and need for vengeance. [19]
- Trevor Gaines
- In late 2007, Trevor Gaines was the owner and operator of Camp Crystal Lake. Well aware of the infamy surrounding the campground, Gaines sought to use the legend of Jason Voorhees as a publicity angle to attract a stronger client base. He even began producing prop hockey masks and "I Survived Camp Crystal Lake" t-shirts. Gaines hired senior counselor Mike Burns to oversee the renovation of the campground in preparation of its re-opening. When he lost contact with the campground staff, Gaines traveled through a terrible storm to see what was going on. The junior counselors warned him that a deranged killer was terrorizing the woods, but Gaines was reluctant to believe them. Trevor's opinions on the matter proved immaterial, for only seconds later, he was shot in the throat with an arrow from an unseen assailant (Voorhees). [20]
Notes
- A brief history of Camp Crystal Lake is provided by Brian Evans in Friday the 13th #1. His account matches information provided in the 1980 Friday the 13th film, indicating that at least some of the material presented in the various movies are canonical in Earth-F13 continuity as well. The Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash limited series establishes that the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason is part of comic continuity as well.
