Friday the 13th was a six-issue limited series published by WildStorm Productions, an imprint of DC Comics, between February and July of 2007. The series adapts the popular Friday the 13th film franchise featuring the notorious machete-wielding, hockey mask-garbed serial killer Jason Voorhees. WildStorm Productions treats the original 1980 Friday the 13th film as part of its official canon, but it is unclear what, if any, elements of the franchise sequels are part of the comic continuity as well. Numerous references are made to the 1980 film throughout the title including an abridged history of the setting, Camp Crystal Lake, and information relating to Jason's mother Pamela Voorhees (the actual killer from the first film). Friday the 13th is not the first comic title based on the eponymous franchise, but it is the first published by a DC Comics-owned publishing house. Jason Voorhees made his first comic book appearance in the 1993 Topps Comics adaptation of the film Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. He was later seen again in a 1995 quasi-sequel Jason vs. Leatherface. From 2005-2006, Avatar Press produced several limited series including Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th: Jason X and Friday the 13th: Jason vs. Jason X.
