Gagsworth A. Gagsworthy, known as Gaggy for short, was a dwarf who was the first sidekick of the Joker.

Gaggy was originally the star of Haly's Circus due to his comedic tightrope act and his ability to shatter glass with his voice, however he was replaced by the Flying Graysons because C.C. Haly thought the show should be more family friendly. He was then put to work as a clown, but he resented this so he would pull cruel pranks on the other clowns. Joker noticed this and found the act hilarious, later confronting him in his dressing room. Joker was pleasantly surprised that Gaggy was unafraid of him and hired him as his court jester. He and Joker would work as a team robbing banks pulling pranks and having a good time. Gaggy and Joker went up against Batman and Robin in multiple occasions, with Gaggy having a special disdain for Robin in particular. One time when they were in prison Gaggy saw Joker kill 6 other inmates with a food tray, Gaggy fought his way through to him but at that point he was long gone, something snapped within Joker and Gaggy knew it. After the cafeteria tray incident, Joker was sent to Arkham Asylum and him and Gaggy hadn't seen each other since. [1]

After being released from prison he learned that he had been replaced by Harley Quinn. Gaggy blamed Harley for reducing Joker to a "sullen, psychotic creep" and hoped to restore Joker by destroying her out of envy. Using his old gear and some hired henchman, Gaggy disguised himself as the Joker and sought out to kill Harley Quinn.[2]

After witnessing Harley Quinn with "Bruce Wayne", Gaggy, disguised as the Joker, decided now was the time to finally destroy her. As Hush attempted to secretly push Harley off the balcony, he is interrupted by a Joker blimp. Gaggy orders his henchman to open fire on the party, but the Blimp is grabbed by Poison Ivy. With his henchmen captured, Gaggy resorts to plan B and ambushes the villainesses at their hide-out. Gaggy detonates the Jokermobile and incinerates the room, but Ivy puts the fire out.[3]

Ivy and Catwoman agree to stop "Joker" and convince Harley to reluctantly share the address to Joker's hideout. Gaggy recovers from celebrating prior only to discover the villainesses outside his lair. Gaggy confronts them but struggles with Catwoman and Ivy. The villainesses stagger Gaggy and he sheds his Joker disguise to introduce himself as Joker's original sidekick. Much to his disappointment, neither Ivy or Catwoman have heard of him. As the fight resumes, Catwoman and Ivy underestimate Gaggy and he incapacitates them both before taking Harley Hostage.[4]

Harley feigns indifference to delay Gaggy from killing her and Gaggy decides to reveal his backstory before killing her. Gaggy drags Harley to Joker's inner sanctum and explains his glory days as Joker's sidekick. After Gaggy finishes, he straps Harley in a rocket and plans to launch her body into the East River. Before he can, he is interrupted by Catwoman, Posion Ivy and their Carpenter. While distracted, Harley frees herself and Ivy binds Gaggy to the rocket. The rocket activates in the process, and Gaggy is sent rocketing into the river. Despite the setback, Gaggy survives and vows vengeance on Harley Quinn.[5]

Abilities

  • Acting: Gaggy was a natural comedian, always providing entertainment for his employer. He also impersonated the Joker and fooled everyone except for Harley that he was Joker.
  • Glass Shattering Scream: Gaggy had the ability to break glass with his voice, from simple cups to large chandeliers.

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
