Ghosts was the name of a supernatural anthology series published by DC Comics from 1971-1982 spanning a total of 112 issues. The series was originally entitled "Ghost", but changed to the pluralized "Ghosts" with issue #2. As its title implied, every issue featured tales of hauntings and wayward spirits. From #95 to #102, Ghosts featured an ongoing series starring the famed supernatural debunker, Doctor Thirteen, who had previously been a regular supporting character in The Phantom Stranger, including a three-part crossover with the Spectre.

Unlike all of DC's other horror-themed comics in the 1970s, Ghosts had no recurring host character for most of its run, instead opening with a one-page ghost story titled "Ghosts and the Supernatural". Starting with Ghosts #75, the series featured a page of prose accounts of the supernatural, "The Files of Dr. Geist", but the eponymous Paul Geist, PhD never appeared on-panel or directly addressed the reader. It would not be until Ghosts #104 that the series would gain a traditional host, the ghostly Squire Shade.
