This paperback collects the first three stories from the Gotham Central comic book series: In the Line of Duty, Motive and Half A Life.
The first story, In the Line of Duty, was written by Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker, and illustrated by Michael Lark. It was originally published in February, 2003. In this story Gotham's Special Crimes Unit is in a race against time to bring in Mister Freeze without the help of the Dark Knight.
Motive is the second story. It was written by Ed Brubaker and illustrated by Michael Lark. Originally it was published from March to May, 2003. In this story the Major Crimes Unit investigate the late Charlie Fields' unsolved case, involving the murder of a teenage girl and the villain Firebug.
The third story is Half a Life. This story was originally published from June to October, 2003. It was written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Michael Lark. This story concentrates on Renée Montoya. She's a fine cop, but keeps her private life to herself. That is, until someone reveals her secret while implicating her in a murder. The investigation redefines Montoya's relationship with her colleagues as well as with one of Gotham's most notorious rogues.
