Synopsis for "Wild in the Streets Part II"
While on the hunt for an escaped black jaguar, Green Arrow encounters a woman named Alia Sombarro, who comes from a village where the jaguar is revered as a totem for a spirit who guides her people. She reveals that she has followed the jaguar to Seattle, and that whoever smuggled the animal into the country hopes to experience the thrill of the hunt, and kill the jaguar. Oliver comments that anyone who would hunt an endangered species for sport has little to do with a real hunter.
The hunter himself, Mr. Henninger, returns to the docks where the animal was taken from a cargo ship. He determines to find and kill her in the five hours remaining before dawn. His right-hand man Mr. Karsten is doubtful, warning that the jaguar is a black ghost who could kill him before he could scream. Even so, Henninger tracks the jaguar, finding a half-eaten dog in an alley. He anticipates that she will return to feed on it, and nearly gets a shot at her when she does.
The sound of the gunshot alerts Green Arrow, and he follows Henninger up onto a roof. The jaguar moves to pounce on her hunter, and once again, Henninger nearly gets a shot, but one of Oliver's arrows knocks the gun from its target. The distraction allows the jaguar to complete her attack, and she knocks Henninger down into the alleyway below, killing him. When Oliver looks down into the alley, he is bewildered to find that the jaguar is already gone.
When Oliver gets back to ground level, Alia Sombarro appears, and thanks him for caring. Still, she warns him away from getting involved in what's to come. Oliver insists on helping, hoping to find the jaguar before the police come to find and trap the animal. Alia warns that if the jaguar is trapped and put in a cage or a zoo, it will be just the same as death to her. Oliver responds that the police won't let the jaguar go. Alia requests that Oliver help the jaguar to die, before kissing him and running away.
Oliver tracks down the jaguar before the police do, and when it leaps at him, he expresses no aggression. Unfortunately, the police arrive and open fire on the animal, killing it. When the police ask Oliver why he didn't kill the animal when he had the chance, he responds that he didn't think his life was worth hers.
- It is heavily implied that Alia Sombarro is the black jaguar in this issue.
