Hal Jordan 020

Green Lantern is a superhero and an intergalactic police officer in the DC Universe. The weapon he wields is a power ring that translates his ideas into green energy using the strength of his willpower. He is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an organization created by the Guardians of the Universe that has established thousands of members distributed throughout each space sector. There have been several assigned to the planet Earth in Sector 2814.

Alan Scott was the FIRST and original Green Lantern of the Golden Age, and a member of the Justice Society of America. Although he is not a member of the Corps, he taps into the same energy by using the magical Starheart. Hal Jordan (the SECOND Green Lantern) is the first human Corps member, and most well known Green Lantern and is known as possibly the greatest of all time because he never gives up under any circumstances. He received his ring from his predecessor the dying alien Abin Sur, and was a founding member of the Justice League of America. The masculine Guy Gardner ,the THIRD Green Lantern was chosen to be his back-up and potential replacement. John Stewart is the FOURTH Green Lantern, an architect and ex-soldier. Kyle Rayner the FIFTH Green Lantern, became the last Green Lantern when the Green Lantern Corps was destroyed by Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) as Parallax during Emerald Twilight, but all of them have once again become active together since Green Lantern: Rebirth. The SIXTH Green Lantern is Simon Baz, receiving his ring from Sinestro (who had recently returned to the Corps) after his supposed death. The original Green Lantern (Alan Scott) was created by Bill Finger and Martin Nodell in 1940, first appearing in All-American Comics #16. The current version (Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)) of the character and his mythos were created by John Broome and Gil Kane, first appearing in Showcase #22. (1959)
