Synopsis for "S.O.S. Green Lantern!"

An alien peace officer named Abin Sur of the Green Lantern Corps crash lands in the middle of the California desert. As he lay dying, he commands his power ring to seek out a worthy successor - one who proves to be fearless and strong-willed. Miles away, test pilot Hal Jordan is examining a flight simulator when a corona of green light envelops him, pulling him along with the simulator to the spot of Abin Sur's crashed vessel. Abin Sur tells Hal that the power of the ring selected him to take on the role of the Green Lantern. He gives him the ring, his costume and a power battery. He instructs him that the ring will obey his every command, but is powerless against anything colored yellow. He further tells him that the ring's energy must be charged from the power battery once every twenty-four hours. Hal agrees to accept the responsibility of wielding the ring in the cause of justice, and with that, Abin Sur passes away. Hal Jordan is now Green Lantern.

Synopsis for "Earth's First Green Lantern"

As Hal recharges his ring and changes back into his civilian guise, Pieface has some questions regarding about the Green Lantern that he succeded: Abin Sur. Like why he never wore a mask and why he flew in a spaceship when Hal found him instead of using his power ring to fly like the other Green Lanterns. Hal tells Pieface that shortly after he became the Green Lantern, he asked his power ring the same questions and it recounted Abin Sur's last adventure prior to crashing on Earth:

Abin Sur was inspecting the planet Athmoora which has been perpetually stuck in a neo-medival stage instead of being in an atomic age. Probing one of the inhabidences minds he learns that the energy beings known as the Larifars have stunted their progress by robbing them of their intelligence.

Abin then traveled to the Larifar home planet and imprisoned the entire race, except for Balzona, who was on another planet waiting for his fellows to arrive and drain the intelligence of another planet. When Balzona learns of his races fate, he goes after Abin Sur and terrorizes his home planet. Abin agrees to free the other Larifars, however convinces Balzona that his power ring wouldn't have the power to bring them to that location in time. Boarding a shuttle, Abin Sur uses the long space flight to trick Balzona is distracted by flying near Sirus's green radiation belt, Abin Sur is able to recharge his power ring without Balzona noticing. Abin then uses his power ring to imprison Balzona and send him to join his fellow Larifars. During the flight home however, Abin was struck by a yellow radiation belt negating his power ring long enough to be unable to prevent his shuttle from crashing on Earth -- and his destined meeting with Hal Jordan.

Finishing his story, Hal gives Pieface the title in which he'll call the story once he writes it down in his case book "Earth's First Green Lantern."

Synopsis for "Flight Delay"

The new Manhunter model attacks Hal Jordan and opens up to reveal a Green Lantern Power Battery inside its head, which drains Hal's ring of most of it's power. The damaged Manhunter flies away with the new model in pursuit. Hal and Shane convince General Stone to allow Hal to fly one of the jets after them, but not before Hal punches Stone in the jaw.

General Stone reluctantly explains to Hal that the U.S. Military had confiscated Abin Sur's spacecraft many years ago. They were unable to fix the ship until they found a damaged Manhunter robot after the Millennium event. Seven weeks ago, the robot turned itself on.

The new Manhunter damages the old Manhunter enough that it lands in the middle of Coast City and activates its self-destruct sequence, which would destroy the entire city. The new Manhunter turns its attention to Hal and pulls him out of the cockpit of his jet. In freefall, a powerless Jordan recites the Green Lantern oath as he pulls the robot's head / Green Lantern battery off. With his ring recharged, Hal grabs the self-destructing Manhunter and takes it into space. The robot admits that it is afraid of ceasing to exist shortly before detonating.

The next day, Hal talks to General Stone about a pilot position. Stone accepts Hal's apology and admits that he determined that Hal is Green Lantern from the style of his punch. That night, Hal sees his brother moving into Coast City with his finally.

In a short epilogue, a robed figure, acting as the new Grandmaster of the Manhunters, surveys a group of imprisoned Green Lanterns, all of whom were supposedly killed by Hal Jordan when he was Parallax.
