Synopsis for "The Living Graveyard of the Sea"

The Nazis march across Europe, and the power of radio as a tool in the war effort is demonstrated when people all over the United States, including Alan Scott, hear Churchill deliver a speech. Alan and Irene are dispatched to Australia to oversee the installation of a shortwave radio installation necessary for the war effort. Doiby tries to tag along and when he's denied, stows away on their ship anyway. Mid-voyage the ocean liner's attacked by a Nazi aircraft carrier. Alan changes to Green Lantern and battles the fighter planes and submarine arrayed against him, but has to break off when the ocean liner starts to sink. He throws the lamp into a duffel bag and swims to Irene and Doiby's lifeboat as Alan Scott. After a while the little boat's drawn toward an ominous black cloud on the horizon.

They find themselves on an island, where numerous old ships are beached. People in period costumes come down from them, but prove to be peaceful. An elder explains that by chance numerous ships from different nations were pulled by powerful currents to this mysterious island, then trapped by tangling sea weed. They fought at first, but then realized how futile it was and joined their communities, their descendants following their peaceful ways ever since. Since they seem trapped by the powerful currents, Alan, Irene and Doiby seem content with the idea of staying in this peaceful community, but a rich family on their lifeboat is unwilling to leave behind their wealth and status from society. They steal gold and jewels the castaways don't value, and try to escape in a boat but are attacked by a kraken. Green Lantern intervenes and paralyzes the tentacled beast with his mighty beam, causing the other fish in the water to devour it. However, not long afterward a German U-boat surfaces near the island and keeps its defenders at bay by threatening the women. A pilot in an autogyro's dispatched to tell Hitler about the island so it can be occupied as a Nazi military base.

While waiting for reinforcements to arrive and secure the island, the Nazi troops already there try to convince the American castaways to lead them to the island's treasure so it can't be hidden before the German forces can claim everything. The wealthy family who tried to steal it before are tempted by the Nazis' promises of wealth and power. Alan (as well as Green Lantern) is swayed also by the Nazis, to Irene and Doiby's disgust. Soon, one by one the wealth family members realize what a mistake they've made betraying their country to the Nazis. Green Lantern overhears the island elder talking to his aides about where a secret passage to the location of their treasure is. Meanwhile, Doiby comes up with a plan to oppose the incoming Nazi fleet even if it means he must do it without his most trusted friend. He and the island residents start a campaign to clean and repair the ships on the island to make them look grander for the conquering Nazi forces.

Doiby and the islanders suddenly launch a revolt against the Nazis already on the island, who signal for their reinforcements to hurry up. As they come into view of the island, Green Lantern suddenly flies out and cuts down the sea weed that traps ships with his ring. Only at the top of the water, however, and the German ships become tangled when they get near the shore. Realizing Green Lantern's betrayal of his friends had been a ruse all along, the Nazis attack. Green Lantern fends them off and flies to rejoin the islanders, who by then are attacking with their ships' weapons back in working order, thanks to the campaign of cleanliness Doiby sneakily began. Green Lantern joins the battle but is stunned by a torpedo blast and captured by the Nazis. He's put into a deathtrap but escapes, reclaims his ring, and with a sudden onslaught by a horde of feral cats, the remaining Nazis are driven to surrender. The island's elder is convinced that their way of life will eventually make good men of the captured Nazis, and the Americans return home, their humanity enhanced by the experience.
