Green Lantern (Volume 2) #136 is an issue of the series Green Lantern (Volume 2) with a cover date of January, 1981.

Synopsis for "Space Ranger Strikes Back"

Green Lantern and Tom Kalmaku return to Ferris Aircraft immediately after last issue and find it destroyed. Knowing Bruce Gordon was there at the time, they go to his place hoping he might have clues. Meanwhile Carol Ferris is being chased through a swamp and shot at by a hunter in a hovercraft while Carol's captured parents watch. It appears Carol is shot and killed. Green Lantern and Tom find Bruce chained to a wall trying to keep his alter ego at bay but he changes into Eclipso and breaks free. He and Green Lantern battle during which the building begins to come down on top of Tom. In the year 5708 the High Council of Solar Delegates is debating bringing Green Lantern to their time to help battle an invasion force of Gordonians. One of their members, Iona (who is infatuated with Hal), pleads that the equipment is faulty and will result in his death. Nevertheless, the council summons him - which occurs just as he was about to save Tom. As his mind goes blank (part of the procedure) his ring blasts and destroys much of the Gordonian warships. Only something has gone wrong with the time device and Green Lantern never made it to 5708. In the unspecified time in which Green Lantern arrived, word of his actions have reached Space Ranger and Cryll who come to collect him for help. Unfortunately Green Lantern does not remember anything so the heroes take him for medical treatment. The doctor cannot help him and Space Ranger takes him back to his Earth weapon room where he shows him a Green Lantern Power Battery hoping he can explain it. The Gordonians attack and capture the three heroes. The Gordonians envelope the Earth in a tractor beam with orders to tow it to the Adaran System to be auctioned off.

Synopsis for "The Gameplayers of Rann"

Adam catches a Zeta-Beam back to Rann to discover no threats of any kind. He and Alanna enter a series of games (not unlike the Olympics). In each game a mysterious gentleman named Ravin manages to pull out a win with a sudden burst of speed right at the end. Adam becomes suspicious when he sees Ravin fussing with his headband and diverting from a race course in order to stay in direct sunlight. During the last contest, a sky-toboggan race, Adam has his ride emit a cloud of black smoke inside which he confronts Ravin and removes his headband. The headband is a solar-powered molecular rearranger and, without it, Ravin reverts to his original form. He admits he is a herald of a race of Zeenons who are conquerors and plan to "win" Rann by defeating Adam Strange. Adam defeats the alien declaring his victory over the herald means a victory over the entire fleet. Adam's zeta charge wears off and he returns to Earth with only three hours until the next beam arrives.
