When Green Lantern starts abusing his power ring, creating money to pay his bills, Pieface convinces Hal to contact the Guardians of the Universe as to why he's been acting so strangely. The Guardians believe it's the aliens known as the Grolls who are manipulating Hal in a bit to try and take over the Earth.

However, before they can get Hal to do something about it he rushes off and starts offering people their own power rings. When the Grolls arrive on Earth to invade it, they are surprised to find that Green Lantern was bluffing them into action and stops their invasion attempt, driving them from Earth.

Synopsis for "Pay Up - Or Blow Up!"

Hal visits with his brothers to participate in Jim and Sue William's wedding. Before the big day, a scientist named J. Charles Gantner threatens to use nuclear power to destroy the city with his super-weapon if they don't pay his ransom of a million dollars. Hal leaves to change into Green Lantern and springs into action, however in his initial conflict with Gantner finds Green Lantern knocked out by Gantner's weapon.

Egged on by Sue, Jim searches the mountains for Gantner's cave, and is helped out when Hal revives and knocks out Gantner with his power ring. When Jim drags out the unconscious Gantner, Sue is even more so convinced that he is Green Lantern. After the wedding and en route to their honeymoon, Jim tries to prove he isn't the Green Lantern by showing Sue a newspaper report about the Green Lantern's latest adventure, but Sue believe him because the Green Lantern can create duplicates of himself.
