Synopsis for "Drinking Buddies"

Kyle Rayner sits in a bar in his hometown and is in deep thoughts. He remembers how he was here not long ago helping his drunken friend Tyler and, after leaving the bar through a backdoor, meeting Ganthet who then gave Kyle the power ring to make him a Green Lantern. Then Kyle's thoughts are wandering towards his girlfriend Donna Troy who just earlier had been told that both her ex-husband and her son were killed in a car accident. Following that news Donna left Kyle because she needs to handle this by herself.

Finally, Kyle's childhood friend Tyler enters the bar. He immediately orders beer and even stronger booze. Tyler had finished his studies in art, but only works at a copy shop right now. And Kyle quickly realizes that his friend seems to be an alcoholic. Kyle gently tries to confront Tyler with that, but of course Tyler rejects the accusation. After a small physical altercation between the two, Tyler leaves the bar angrily. Shortly after that Kyle hears a loud crash. He changes into Green Lantern and saves Tyler who had caused a severe car accident near the bar.

Tyler awakes at the hospital and finds Kyle sitting at the side of the bed. Tyler is full of regrets and promises to do something about his alcohol problem. Actually, Kyle already brought somebody with him to help Tyler - it is the female barmaid who herself is a clean alcoholic.

A little later, Kyle says goodbye to his mother Maura and then flies back to New York.
