Harry Shorten starred on the New York University football team and had later played pro football in the American League. Later he would began his literary career by writing his first book, How to Watch a Football Game. Once the book was published, and selling briskly, he continued to write sport stories for pulp magazines.
He began his editing, writing and publishing career at MLJ Comics. While there, he worked on six titles including, Pep Comics and Shield-Wizard Comics. In the late 1950's, Mr. Shorten founded Tower Publications, which introduced the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents.
