Synopsis for "Good For Nothing"

A grandfather who dies in an accident is angry at God for leaving his ghost upon Earth only to watch his grandson pine away with a broken heart. The boy's father decides to take a job in a big city so that his son will be out of the old house and begin to forget his grandfather. As the boy and his family pull out on their train God allows the child to see his grandfather's ghost waving goodbye to him and the boy pulls the emergency stop chord. The passengers get off the train and the boy can no longer see his grandfather's ghost. Another passenger is angry at the boy and the conductor tells him that he ought to thank God because there was another train on the tracks at an unscheduled time. If the boy hadn't pulled the emergency stop, everyone on board the train would be dead. The grandfather's lonely spirit is no longer angry at God because he realizes that his remaining on Earth had a purpose.
