A stage magician calling herself "Hypnota", and impersonating a man, accidentally received a bullet wound to the head. Her life was saved with experimental surgery, with the unexpected side effect of activating Hypnota's Mid-Brain, enabling her to use "Blue Electric Rays of Dominance" to take over the will of any other person. Using her stage show for cover, Hypnota went into the business of enslaving and exporting women to Saturn, which brought her into conflict with the Saturnic government's Ambassador to Earth, Count Dendum, which in turn brought her into conflict with Wonder Woman.[1]

After spending some time imprisoned on Reform Island, Hypnota escaped and joined up with several other super criminals in Villainy, Inc., the first "supervillain" gang of its type.[2]

Powers

  • This version of Hypnota, including all history and corresponding appearances, was initially erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series. However the ending of Convergence retroactively prevented that collapse, saving all the alternate realities, though in an "evolved" form. Even though versions of the character may have since appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
