In the year 5700 AD, Iona Vane posed as the girlfriend of "Pol Manning", Green Lantern's fabricated alter ego when he was brought to that time.

Whenever the council of Solarites faced a menace they couldn't face, they would take the Green Lantern from the 20th century and place him as their Solar Director to help them. But the journey through time would erase the memories of the 20th-century hero, so they created an alternate identity for him, a space-faring adventurer called Pol Manning, and placed Iona Vane as his romantic interest. At first, her relationship with "Pol Manning" was intended to be an act, but she developed real romantic feelings towards Green Lantern. The hero helped them on various occasions, but his stay would always be brief due to his need to recharge his ring every 24 hours. Whenever the menace was taken care of, Green Lantern would return to his time with no memories of the 58th century, leaving the lonely Iona Vane behind, eagerly waiting for his return.[1]

Eventually, Hal Jordan learned about the 58th century and the events he faced in that future Earth as "Pol Manning", finally meeting Iona and Korlian Dasor and remembering them after his return to the present.[2] In one occasion, Iona saved Hal from death, and he realized at that moment that Iona had real feelings towards him.[3]

When Dasor brought Green Lantern again to help defend Earth from a Gordanian invasion, Iona declared her love for Hal and asked to be taken to his time and live together. But Hal, being in a relationship with Carol, couldn't satisfy her wishes. Before returning to his time, Green Lantern erased all of Iona's memories about him, leaving her to believe that he was a simple time traveler passing by.[4]

Having her memories erased caused Iona's mind to be unstable, and Korlian Dasor deemed it necessary to bring "Pol Manning" again. Accidentally, they brought Salakk instead of Hal Jordan, but gave him the "Pol Manning" identity either way. They restored Iona's memories, changing Hal's persona to Salakk's.[5]
