Ivar was a Viking warrior.

Early Life

Ivar was the son of a brief romance between Harald and Sigrid, daughter of Hagbard. His grandfather ordered his seta (upper house woman) to abandon the baby to the wolves.[1] The small Ivar was saved by Kol the wise, who raised the boy as his own son.[2]

The Bear-sarks

Hagbard commanded Sigrid to marry Jarl-Eirik. During the wedding feast, Bear-sarks invaded the festivity, slaying several guests, and their leader carried Sigrid off with him.[3] Years later, after Ivar grew to manhood and became well versed in the arts of war, Ivar fought the Bear-sarks. He routed them - but not before his adoptive father Kol was killed in battle. With Kol's death, Ivar became the new king of his Viking clan.[4]

After some time, a fleet commanded by Ivar went to an unknown country, where they had problems with Bear-sarks again.[5] In this time they captured the Bear-sark leader Djorg and his wife Sundgrid.[6] Djorg invoked the anger of Thor upon the Vikings - and a heavy storm overtook the fleet.[7] Sundgrid took a dove - killed during the storm - and removed the horns in Ivar's cap. She replaced them with dove wings. After she placed the winged helmet onto Ivar's head, the storm ceased.[8]
