HistoryEdit
On Mars, J'onn J'Onzz was regarded as the greatest warrior of the Green Martians. He started a family with his wife M'yri'ah after the birth of their daughter, K'hym. Tragedy struck when the White Martians incited a civil war and ravaged the Green Martian's city. As all his people were murdered, J'Onzz was accidentally teleported to Earth by Dr. Erdel.
In Middleton, Denver, Colorado, Dr. Saul Erdel attempted to send and receive a deep space signal to find alien life. Instead, he teleported a Martian to Earth. After forming a bond with Erdel, he learned much about his sense of heroism and good will. J'Onzz concluded that he wanted to be a force of good and protect his adopted home. He later became a superhero named Martian Manhunter and joined the Justice League.
Years later, he and the most of the Justice League agreed to help Alexander Luthor to defeat the Crime Syndicate. Martian Manhunter and the Flash disrupted one of Johnny Quick's smuggling operations. He appeared as a sea serpent and constricted Archer, one of Quick's Made Men, into submission then scuttled Quick's ship. The League's success caught the attention of President Wilson, who wanted to preserve status quo rather than challenge it. Manhunter read Wilson's daughter's mind without permission and presented the notion that the President was a soldier who didn't want to risk causing senseless bloodshed in a war, something J'Onzz understood. Out of guilt and concern, J'Onzz secretly followed Rose Wilson as she went to public rallies against the Syndicate. He saved her life from Archer and subdued him for the police.
She implored Manhunter to use his true form around her and he in turn apologized for reading her mind earlier. In an unexpected turn, he realized they were attuned, their minds in sync to a strong degree. When Wilson tried to kiss him, J'Onzz formed a mind-link with her and they both learned each others' pasts. President Wilson was displeased with the attempt on his daughter's life and authorized a strike on the Syndicate's lunar base. Manhunter accompanied them and reunited with the League. Despite the chance at love again, he upheld his promise to protect his universe's Earth and parted ways with Rose Wilson.
Powers and AbilitiesEdit
Powers
- Martian Physiology: J'onn J'onzz possesses the same powers as an average Martian. These include:
- Extrasensory Input: Nine different senses.
- Martian Vision: Eyesight which extends the visible spectrum, visual acuity, and allows sight through most objects and barriers. Martian Vision is also similar to Kryptonian heat vision in that it can cause combustible objects to explode.
- Flight: The ability defy gravity and fly through sheer force of will. This ability is psionic in nature, and functions similarly to tactile telekinesis.
- Invulnerability: With the exception of fire, he is invulnerable to nearly all physical attacks. This is due primarily to their shape-shifting talents and the ability to increase the density of his molecular structure.
- Malleable Form: Psionic control over his physical form, even down to the molecular level. As a form of shape-shifting, this power enables J'onn J'onzz to contort his physical structure to adopt human form, elongate limbs, grow to immense size, and so on. He can also change the substance and material from which his body is made of. This allows him to produce weapons and clothing on ant type. He can maintain the selected form for an indeterminate amount of time without undue risk or strain. This ability allows for the folowing powers:
- Intangibility: The ability to decrease his molecular density to become incorporeal and thus able to pass through solid objects, as well as increase it to become tougher and stronger.
- Invisibility: The ability to bend light waves around his body, rendering his invisible to most forms of human detection. Through this byproduct of shape-shifting, he can also alter their body's temperature, allowing his to become invisible to most forms of electronic detection.
- Size Alteration
- Regeneration: The ability to rapidly heal wound, from minor cuts to regrowing lost limbs. This include the regrowth of major body parts such as the head, heart, or similar primary organs.
- Self-Sustenance: Negating the need to consume food or drink. This also eliminates the need to produce waste.
- Superhuman Speed: Either through flight or natural movement, he can maintain the speed and reflexes far in excess to that of a standard Earth human.
This also allows: - Superhuman Endurance: His endurance is just as formidable as his strength or invulnerability. When not in the presence of fire, he can operate under extreme conditions for an indeterminate period of time without showing signs of fatigue. The exact range of this power is unknown. When in the presence of fire, this endurance diminishes greatly.
- Superhuman Strength: He possesses a strength comparable to that of a Kryptonian under a yellow sun.
- Telepathy: The ability to read the minds of others and project his thoughts to varying degrees. He can also project their mental essences into a gestalt community known as the "Great Mind". Through this, the community can enhance the telepathic strength of other Martians. This power can also enable him to reverse the effects of amnesia or psychological brainwashing. J'onn J'onzz has honed this ability to the point where he can extract repressed memories from a subject regardless of how dormant the memory may lie.
- Mind Control: As an extension of his telepathic powers, he can also use the ability to alter a subject's psychological profile, enabling him to manipulate, and in some cases, outright control his chosen target. This practice is greatly discouraged however, and only rarely used.
Weaknesses
- Martian Physiology: J'onn J'onzz possesses the same weaknesses as an average Martian. These include:
- Vulnerability to Fire: Martians are much more vulnerable to fire than the average Earth human. At times this has been portrayed as physical, psychological, or a combination of the two. The effect of this is to strip any Martian of their powers as they involuntarily lose control of their body.
