Professional History

J.D. Finn is a pseudonym, derived from the names J.D. Salinger and Huckleberry Finn. The credit was created to hide the identity of whomever wrote issues #824-825 of Action Comics (Volume 1). Due to the increasing unpopularity of writer Chuck Austen due to his work on Marvel Comics' X-Men titles, DC Comics felt that sales of Action Comics were being affected. After he refused to take a pseudonym and move to a lower-tier title, Austen was forced to resign. He speculated in later interviews that J.D. Finn was actually longtime Superman editor Eddie Berganza, though this has never been confirmed.[1] The DC Website has listed Joe Kelly as the writer for these issues, though the solicits still note J.D. Finn as a guest writer.[2]
