Synopsis for "The Sleeping World"
The Justice League fight through the Voruk warfleet and making landfall on the planet Penumbra. The Voruk are unable to chase after them due to their ships not be properly shielded from the Infinity Coil. But instead they send only a handful of shielded scout ships while Mhak-Lord Gordoruk orders for his living dreadnought, the God-of-Storms, to cannibalize the fleet's gunships and heavy cruisers in order to create its shield.
The League and Ghoji land on the planet. However, Aquaman and his technician are rendered unconscious due to the damage done to their shield during the battle. Batman and Maiko see to repairing Aquaman's machine. Kyle and Genshi goes off to find the Green Lantern Shirea Vaas. The others observe the eerie planet where its denizens are all asleep and discover that there are strange eel-like creatures that are the only beings moving. Their curiosity end quickly end as they come under fire by the Voruk scout ships. When one of the ships makes a pass on J'onn, his technician Gaida suddenly unleashed a mental attack on the ship at the cost of her life. Wonder Woman and Tsaru manage to hack into one of the ship's cortex, allowing the scout ships to be left vulnerable to a massive mental assault in which the Martian Manhunter send a psychic pulse that disable the ships.
Kyle have found Shirea's body and takes her on board his robot, where she finally wakes up. The League and Ghoji travel to the Infinity Coil. Wonder Woman demands Tsaru to know what had happen to Gaida and what caused her death. Tsaru answer that this is the reason why her people reject war and also why she was strongly against having Ghoji on their mission, which she volunteered so she can make a mental defense for the Ghoji. The explanation is cut short as the God-of-Storms have finally make landfall. The League battle the dreadnought; Aquaman boards the God-of-Storms and he decide to personally confront Gordoruk face-to-face; Flash's machine is struck down and their pilots rendered unconscious with their shield generator destroyed. The Green Lanterns comes close to the Infinity Coil and discover that the structure is alive and it is made up by the eel creatures, refer to as the "Shadows".
Aquaman confront Gordoruk and is soon join by the Martian Manhunter, who manage to calm the volatile Voruk. It is then dawn on J'onn for why the Voruk are so strangely violent and the complete truth of the Penumbra war. The Ghoji have harnessed their abilities to create a psychic weapon, the Shai-Tar, used against the Voruk with the sacrifice of thousands of Ghoji lives to fuel the weapon. With the Voruk driven mad by the attack, they resorted to creating the Infinity Coil; in which it is a gate which it hooks one point in our reality back to itself. The gate never closes, creating a temporal paradox. But should the coil were to be destabilize it will undo reality. Now the coil has evolve beyond the control of its creators and could not contain itself.
The Green Lanterns, Superman and Batman tries to contain the coil but to no avail. Martian Manhunter theorize the disaster could be averted if they break the paradox by connecting the gate to somewhere else. But this means they need a stardrive of massive size...namely the God-of-Storms itself. Tsaru and Voruk willingly volunteer to pilot the God-of-Storms and sacrificing their lives in the process, as atonement for their peoples' conflict while hoping that their sacrifices would make their people putting aside their animosity. The God-of-Storms explodes and the Infinity Coil is no more. Penumbra is free from the paradox.
