Synopsis for "Black Vengeance (Part I)"
The JSA convenes a special meeting to decide the fate of Atom-Smasher. Sand vouches for letting him back onto the team, but several others, including Sentinel and Hourman are reluctant to consider the idea in lieu of Al's actions in Kahndaq. They collectively decide to put the matter to a vote.
Meanwhile in Midway City, the mysterious Crimson Avenger appears and prepares to mete out justice against a man who murdered his wife. Before she can exact justice however, the untethered spirit of vengeance the Spectre appears in the room. He kills the Avenger's target then turns his attention on the Avenger herself. Suddenly, a beam of purple energy shoots through her shoulder. The origin of this beam of light is Jean Loring, who only recently took on the power of Eclipso.
In Kahndaq, Black Adam has a video conference with Lex Luthor. He reminds him that the only reason he associated with his Society was because Luthor agreed to keep his people away from Kahndaq. Adam warns Luthor to make certain that he honors his end of the deal.
In Fawcett City, Billy and Mary Batson climb the steps of their school. Billy suddenly sees the reflection of Shazam in a window. Shazam summons Billy to the Rock of Eternity. He tells Billy about the merging of Jean Loring's body with that of Eclipso. He also points him in the right direction of Eclipso's next target. As Captain Marvel, Billy decides to enlist the aid of his old allies the JSA.
Black Adam meanwhile, flies to the U.S. and comes to Atom-Smasher's room. Al is patiently waiting for his former teammates to come to a decision. Adam tells him that the people of Kahndaq needs his help. Al agrees to accompany him back to Kahndaq.
The JSA members, having finalized their decision on whether to accept Al back on the team go to his room. Al is gone, but floating outside his window is Hawkman and Captain Marvel. They tell the JSA that they must go to Kahndaq.

Synopsis for "Black Vengeance (Part II)"
Two Days Ago:
The Spectre continues on his mad quest to destroy all magic on Earth. He appears in the middle of the Tower of Fate in Salem and confronts Hector Hall. Hector dons the Helmet of Nabu, but he is not fast enough. The Spectre violently attacks Hector and his wife Lyta.
Today:
Black Adam takes Atom-Smasher with him back to Kahndaq. The Spetre has already arrived and is burning the capitol city of Shiruta to the ground. Black Adam's loyal Feitheran warriors swarm the Spectre, but with a wave of his hand he turns a phalanx of Feitherans into stone. Northwind, having evaded the Spectre's first attack strikes him across the face with his spear. Black Adam flies down and plows through the Spectre's midsection. The attack gives the Spectre pause, but he manages to drain away the power that gives Black Adam his strength. Transforming back into a mortal, he falls until caught by the giant Atom-Smasher.
The JSA finally arrive in Kahndaq aboard the Steel Eagle. They immediately begin attending the endangered Kahndaqi citizens. Black Adam speaks the magic word "Shazam" and regains his strength and vitality. He turns against the JSA despite the fact that they are here to help him. He tells them that the people of Kahndaq do not want their assistance. Adam begins fighting Power Girl and during the fight Power Girl's eyes begin to glow. She is suddenly struck blind for an unknown reason. By reflex, she unleashes a powerful burst of heat vision that sends Black Adam reeling.
Mister Terrific meanwhile instructs J.J. Thunder to release the Thunderbolt. Johnny Thunderbolt bursts out of the pen and J.J. tells him to teleport the Spectre to the Fifth Dimension. The Thunderbolt is no match for the Spectre's raw power though and the Spectre sends the Thunderbolt power along with J.J. Thunder back into the Fifth Dimension.
Meanwhile, Eclipso finally makes her presence known. She creates stone effigies of the late heroes Alexander Montez and Nemesis and has them attack Stargirl. Atom-Smasher look on in horror as one of the stone golems grasps Stargirl by the throat.

Synopsis for "Black Vengeance (Part III)"
While the Spectre continues his rampage across Shiruta, Eclipso animates two stone statues and has them attack Stargirl and Atom-Smasher. Stargirl manages to wrestle free of their grasp and recovers her cosmic staff. Atom-Smasher then makes short work of both statues. He gets the drop on Eclipso and steps on her, threatening to apply lethal pressure unless she tells him how to call of the Spectre. Eclipso taunts him then releases a blast of energy that drives Atom-Smasher back.
Meanwhile, a panicking Power Girl is still stumbling around blind in a crowd of angry Kahndaqi citizens. Hawkgirl swoops down and pulls Kara to safety, but Eclipso leaps on top of her and begins raking her back with her sharp talons. Hawkgirl uses her spear and rams into Eclipso's eye. Black Adam approaches them and grabs Eclipso. Enraged and with no remorse in his heart, he snaps Eclipso's neck and lets her fall to the ground. Jean survives however and after snapping her neck back into place decides to flee the battle scene.
Atom-Smasher meanwhile decides to confront the Spectre directly. He increases his size and mass well beyond safe limits and tackles him head-on. Al bargains with the Spectre and tells him that he will offer himself up to the Spectre's judgment and subsequent vengeance if the Spectre leaves Kahndaq. The Spectre agrees and plunges his wraithly fist into Atom-Smasher's chest. He judges him for his deliberate actions that led to the death of Extant. His fist crushes Al's heart and the former JSA member falls to the ground. The Spectre, honoring his promise, disappears from Kahndaq. For an instant, Per Degaton appears before Al's broken and dying body and says, "I told you I'd watch your heart burst with sin". Stargirl spots him and begins hurling her starburts, but Per Degaton disappears back into the timestream. The other JSA members quickly crowd around Al's body, but there is nothing they can do. Atom-Smasher is dead. Black Adam, refusing to see his ally die, calls down the power of the magic lightning. Twin bolts strike down upon Atom-Smasher's chest where Black Bolt is standing and the shock is strong enough to restart his over-sized heart. Sentinel creates an energy craft to carry Al away and Hawkman tells Black Adam that they are taking him home.
