Small-time crook Jack Nimball usurped the identity and hi-tech toy arsenal of Winslow Schott, the original Toyman, during a time when Schott had retired from his life of crime. In his first appearance as the new Toyman, Nimball terrorized Metropolis, but he was ultimately done in by an alliance between Schott, who wished to preserve the integrity of the Toyman name even as a reformed man, and Superman.[1] In spite of initial failure, Nimball would launch a brief and unsuccessful criminal career as the Toyman, though he would be beaten every time by Superman just like his predecessor.[2] When Winslow Schott was driven by circumstance into returning to his old habits, he reclaimed the Toyman identity from Nimball, who he held had desecrated it, by murdering him while he was out on parole with a mechanical toy bird.[3]

Equipment

  • Various Toys: Life sized toys which impersonated various people or did his bidding, high-tech plastic lab equipment, and toys that are just toys for amusement.

Transportation

  • Various Toys: The Toyman has employed a wide array of vehicles to aid him in his criminal endeavors, all of which are patterned after a toy of some kind. Such vehicles include everything from toy trains to pogo-sticks.

Weapons

  • Various Toys: Acid spraying squirt guns, toy soldiers with live rounds, toy airplanes with machine guns, wind up tanks with miniaturized shells, exploding balls, acid gum, etc.
  • This version of Jack Nimball, including all history and corresponding appearances, was initially erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985-86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series. However the ending of Convergence retroactively prevented that collapse saving all the alternate realities though in an "evolved" form. Even though versions of the character may have since appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • It has been indicated that a version of Jack Nimball did exist in the Post-Crisis New Earth universe, but that he may simply have been an android created by the original Toyman, Winslow Schott.
