Superhero Bulletman was active during the past, using the Gravity Regulator Helmet to fly. He came out of retirement to help the Marvel Family.

James "Jim" Barr is the son of a police officer who was murdered in the line of duty. Jim decided to avenge his father by devoting his life to crime fighting. At first Jim tried to join the police but was rejected from the police academy. This purely down to physical reasons, so he applied for a job in ballistics. Jim used a variation of Hourman's Miraclo Pill, which he dubs his 'Crime Cure'. The formula was shown to make him strong enough to smash a tank.[citation needed]

He also invented a Gravity Regulator Helmet a variation of Hawkman's Nth Metal[citation needed] which was bullet shaped and gave him his name, which allowed him to fly and deflect bullets. His first case involved capturing a well known gangster, which Bulletman crashed into his hideout to arrest him.

After a successful time as a hero Bulletman decided to create a second Gravity Regulator Helmet for his girlfriend Susan Kent, daughter of policeman Sgt. Kent, who took the name of Bulletgirl. After many years of crime fighting the duo married and continued their long superhero careers.

Bulletman and Bulletgirl were members of the All-Star Squadron a team of heroes set up during the 1940's. The couple were involved in many battles during World War II , and in that time the met the current Green Lantern of sector 2814 Abin Sur. Bulletman is later accused of being a traitor by the government. He was accused of being involved in the Nazi attack on the Normandie Ocean Liner in New York City. This contradicts Ted Knight's testimony, as Bulletman saved his life, in Alaska, on the day of the attack.

Constrained by promises of confidentiality to the same government that is prosecuting him, Bulletman goes on the run with Ted Knight while Minute Man tries to get the secret oath rescinded. Captain Marvel attempts to arrest Bulletman. Captain Marvel fails to do so thanks to Jack Knight as he is backed by a squad of police.

James Barr and Susan Kent-Barr had a daughter together named Deanna Barr. Deanna like her parents she used the Gravity Regulator Helmet and operated briefly under the name Windshear. Deanna woked with her father on his last outing to rescue the depowered Marvel Family from the villain Chain Lightning.

  • Gravity Regulator Helmet: Bulletman and Bulletgirl wore cone-shaped anti-gravity helmets, which provided them with the following abilties:
    • Flight: The helmets enabled Bulletman and Bulletgirl to defy gravity, and were capable of directional flight at super-sonic velocities.
    • Deflection: The helmets created invisible electromagnetic fields, which prevented approaching obstacles from striking Bulletman or Bulletgirl while in flight.
