A homicide detective in Los Angeles, California, Jim Corrigan was killed in the line of duty, but returned to the land of the living, now sharing his body with the Spirit of Vengeance. Together, the two became the costumed vigilante known as the Spectre.

History

Receiving a call from his ex-girlfriend, Candy Brenner, Jim arrived at her Beverly Hills mansion to discover his fellow officers investigating the death of Candy's father, a well-known movie director. Speaking to the family butler, Jim discovered Mr. Brenner's murderers had gotten onto the grounds without tripping any alarms. While, officially, Jim Corrigan wasn't involved in the investigation, the Spectre tracked down the men responsible and delivered his own brand of justice to them.
