The clone of James Harper, also known as Guardian and Golden Guardian, was the chief of security for Project Cadmus, ally to Superman, and briefly served as a member of the Justice League of America.

Origins

Because of his perfect genetics, Project Cadmus cloned Guardian (Jim Harper). The clone escaped early on, but Cadmus created clones of him to keep the charade of Guardian going. As these were clones of a clone, their genetic structure was unstable. Many wore down after a year, and many did not even get that old. While some had the exact memories of the original Jim Harper, others had very little brain activity.[1]

In addition to the Golden Guardian, Cadmus made other Harper clones as well. Auron was created from the original Harper. Adam was a clone with the body of the cloned Jim Harper and the mind of Dubbilex. Gwendoline Harper was a female clone of the Harper Clone, and one he took with him when he escaped.

Project Cadmus

The Harper clones served as chiefs of security for Project Cadmus, and mentors to the most prominent other genetic achievemements of the project, Superboy and the Newsboy Legion. They were apparently not aware of the multiple clones. After Paul Westfield's death, he had to share his functions with Adam Winterbourne, and later with reformed villain Heat Wave.

Transportation

  • Guardian's Motorcycle: Guardian rode a custom motorcycle that was fitted with a slot at the front that could store his shield.
  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985-86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
