Jason Voorhees was born to Pamela and Elias Voorhees on Friday, October 13th, 1947. Though he was born with severe physical deformities, his mother thought that he was absolutely perfect. Jason's physical detractions were matched only by his mental ones. But for the ability to utter the occasional grunt or groan of frustration, Jason was other wise mute, but inside, he was a raging sea of mental instability. At ten-years old he killed and mutilated a female cat and her kittens. He presented the bloody mess to his nanny Mrs. Cunningham as some macabre gift. Pamela Voorhees was alerted to the incident, but placated Jason's frustration at Mrs. Cunningham's lack of appreciation for his gift. She was prepared to quit her job as a cook at Camp Crystal Lake to look after her son full time, but her employer David Christy, urged her to stay on. He even made allowances for Jason to stay at the campground as a permanent guest. Jason's physical shortcoming and his inability to speak made him a pariah at the campground. The other campers teased him and even the counselors were reluctant to remain near him for any length of time.

In June of 1957, Jason caught two of the senior counselors fornicating in the woods near Crystal Lake. Something about the act spurred Jason's anger and he leaped upon the male counselor, Barry, and began assaulting him with his fists. Reflexively, Barry elbowed Jason in the jaw, but immediately regretted striking the child. Fearing retribution, Jason began running towards the lake. Barry and his partner Sally gave chase to try and calm Jason down, but he ignored their pleas. Instead, he jumped into Crystal Lake, desperate to get away. Unable to swim, Jason flailed about wildly and finally drowned. The police searched the lake, but they didn't find Jason's body.

For reasons that are not quite clear, Jason survived the drowning incident. Local legends attribute his survival to the idea of a "death curse" that has haunted the lake since 1850. Some believe that the lake itself, chose Jason as its instrument of hatred against the world. For the next two and a half decades, Jason grew up alone in the woods surrounding Camp Crystal Lake. He survived by capturing and killing small animals, and he even built a crude cabin for himself made from refuse left behind at the campground.

In June of 1980, Jason Voorhees was lurking in the woods on the night that his mother Pamela Voorhees returned to the campground on a murderous rampage of revenge. He witnessed a lone counselor Alice Hardy defend herself against Pamela by decapitating the older woman with her own machete. Seeing his mother die before his own eyes invigorated the rage that had always lied within him. Two months later, he tracked Alice to her home and murdered her. From that moment on, Jason haunted the forests on and near the campground, slaughtering anyone who dared to cross his territory. Over the next twenty years, more than 175 murders have been attributed to Jason Voorhees. Some stories maintain that he is no longer human, and has been transformed into some powerful, immortal undead engine of destruction.

In 2003, Jason Voorhees encountered another supernatural entity - the dream demon Freddy Krueger. Freddy, having been banished from the minds of his victims due to a drug called Hypnocil, insinuated himself into Jason's psyche and used him to commit even more murders. Jason fought against Krueger's influence and eventually pulled him out of the nightmare dimension and into the real world. The two fought one another on the docks of Crystal Lake and Jason decapitated Krueger with his machete. He brought his severed head back to the shrine in his cabin and placed it next to the rotting head of his late mother. In five years time, Voorhees was destined to have a second encounter with the enigmatic Fred Krueger.

In 2007, Jason Voorhees found a new group of counselors had begun working at Camp Crystal Lake. He murdered two Seattle stoners named Nate and Jerry by stabbing them in the face with a knife and a pot roast sticker. He then killed senior counselor Mike Burns by trapping his head beneath the wheel axle of his truck. Soon after he killed a girl named Sasha at the camp's rec center by splitting her face in half with a machete. Moments afterwards he killed Sasha's boyfriend Ryan by cutting his head off with the same weapon. He then killed property manager Trevor Gaines by firing an arrow through the back of his head. Two witnesses to the carnage, Rico and Alicia Jackson, attempted to flee, but Jason caught up with them on the highway leading away from the camp where he promptly disemboweled them. Another counselor, Brian Evans, was murdered that evening as well, though not by Jason. He was actually killed by co-worker Sally Thomas who, having been unable to take medication for a bi-polar disorder, mistook Evans for Jason and bludgeoned him to death with a toilet cistern. Sally was the only counselor who succeeded in escaping the campground, but Jason ultimately tracked her down and presumably murdered her.
