Steel is a superhero wearing advanced technological armor who strives to emulate Superman. After an Act of God stripped everyone of their natural powers, he became the most physically powerful hero on the planet. Despite this, he had been injured when his suit momentarily shut down and he crashed to the ground mid-flight. He was tragically killed by Toyman's giant robot, when a broken arm caused him to lose control of his suit. This allowed Toyman to cripple him, shoot him down, and crush him to death with a powerful stomp.[1] Lex Luthor took advantage of this to steal all of his research with the intention of mass-producing his own army of super-soldiers with duplicates of Steel's armor.[2] Steel was eventually memorialized on the Justice League Watchtower along with other fallen heroes.[3]
