John Watkiss (b. July 28, 1961 – d.January 21, 2017) was a comic book artist.

Professional History

John Watkiss was a British illustrator and comic artist. He began his career in London as a portrait painter and illustrator and then also taught anatomy and fine art at the Royal College of Art, Ballet Stage and Fashion Design, the Museum of the Moving Image in London, and Steven Spielberg's Amblimation. His first work in the comic book industry was in 1987 for Acme on the title Kiss of Death. His first published work for DC Comics was in 1992 in the title Sandman. He was later hired by Marvel Comics and their imprint Epic Comics and also worked for Dark Horse Comics.

John Watkiss also worked as storyboard artist and character designer in the film industry. In 1999, Watkiss worked for Disney in the movie Tarzan.

Some of the later works in comic books included a couple of graphic novels for IDW Publishing in 2008.

Personal History

Watkiss attended the The Faculty of Arts and Architecture of Brighton University and obtained a bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
