Riders of the Worm and Such is a five-issue Jonah Hex storyline published under the Vertigo Comics imprint. It's the sequel to Joe R. Lansdale and Tim Truman's earlier mini-series Two-Gun Mojo, and would be followed by Shadows West. Vertigo is well-known for using dark fantasy themes in its comics, and this storyline introduces supernatural Western-Horror elements as Hex fights a cthuloid monster.

Synopsis

Jonah Hex is hunted down by the gang of Stove Belly Jack, who torture his friends to death for information. He gives them a proper burial after gunning down every single member of the gang. Passed out from his injuries in the desert, he's taken in by two men named Rudy and the Kid. Their cabin is beset by a horrible monster, and Rudy's torso is bitten off.[1] Jonah and the Kid travel away from their cabin on foot, and are taken in by the Wilde West Ranch. Wilde West is a cattle ranch dedicated to the pursuit of art, run by a man named Mr. Graves who was inspired by Oscar Wilde. Their stage is attacked by a worm who tears through the floor, demonstrating that they're getting stronger.[2] Graves reveals that the worms are led by a duo known as the Autumn Brothers, two creatures born when an ancient Planarian worm monster raped a human woman.[3] Jonah begins to couple with a big-assed woman at the ranch named Brunhilda. The ranchers decide that they're going to take offensive against the worms, and Hex leads them into the underground tunnels. Edgar and Johnny Autumn begin an assault on the ranch.[4] Hex's team fights their way through the complex subterranean civilization, and they slaughter all of the worms they come in contact with. Eventually the Autumn Brothers chase down after them, and Jonah guns them down as well. They rig up explosives to destroy the mother worm and her colony, which destroys the entire Ranch in the process. Jonah makes it out happily alive, but the only other survivors are Brunhilda, Graves and the Kid.[5]
