This article is part of the DC Database Recommended Reading project, a series of articles written by our editors. They are meant as a guide to help both new and old readers, either getting into comics for the first time or looking to read more on their favorites. These should not be taken as a definitive guide; obviously you can start wherever and with whatever you want, but they're some general suggestions that we think you might find enjoyable.
Jonah Hex 0035

"Could you say no to this face?"

Jonah Hex is the DC Universe's most classic and enduring Western character, a gritty Southern bounty hunter with a deep personal code of honor. His stories taking place in the 19th Century, Jonah's adventures are usually fairly self-contained aside from some notable crossovers with other heroes. There is traditionally very little recurring cast, as most of his partners and enemies get killed very quickly. This makes his stories more episodic than serialized, and one of the best things about Jonah Hex is that you can start just about anywhere without having to worry about continuity lockout. Jonah Hex stories are accessible and timeless, spanning the entirety of his career from his origins until his death.
