Synopsis for "The Lair of the Parrot!"

Hex arrives in Wyandott Texas and immediately runs into trouble when he is falsely accused of holding up a store. He gets attacked by Sheriff Baxter and his men and is dragged off to jail. Once inside the Sheriffs office they find a secret service agent by the name of Ned Landon waiting for them. Landon apologizes to Hex for the rough treatment, but they had to put on a false pretense to throw any observers off track. Landon reveals that the United States Government desperately needs Hex’s help in bringing in a ruthless bandit by the name of El Papagayo. Papagayo and his men have been conducting robberies and murder along the Texas border for three years from a stronghold in Northern Mexico. Papagoyo has even become somewhat of a local folk hero by spreading some of his wealth amongst the people. Landon goes on to explain that Papagayo might eventually overthrow the government of President Porfirio Diaz which would give him the opportunity to set up a total dictatorship. Landon offers Hex $10,000 to help them stop the menacing bandit. The US government wants Hex to join Papagayos gang by offering him two crates of the Army’s latest repeat rifles. Landon warns that this is a dangerous mission and there is no hope for rescue if Hex gets in trouble. Hex agrees to take on the mission and rides a wagon out of town with the two crates of rifles. As soon as Hex departs, Landon returns back to the Sheriffs office and murders the three lawmen in cold blood. Ten days later Hex arrives at the Villa Rojo Canyon. He is immediately attacked by lookout scouts but Hex fools them by using a straw dummy to flush them out. Hex apprehends the scouts at gunpoint and forces them to lead him to Papagayos lair. Once they arrive Papagayo executes the two scouts to allow Hex to get the better of them. After the execution, Hex explains that he is willing to offer Papagayo two crates of repeating rifles for five dollars a piece. Papagayo examines the rifles and is pleased with their quality. He then instructs his men to shoot Hex but Hex uses his lighting reflexes to make short work of the Mexican bandidos. Hex is left standing on his own as Papagayo admires his skill . He offers to buy the rifles for four dollars a piece, but Hex emphasizes that the price is Seven fifty. Papagayo agrees to the price and invites Hex to a meal of barbecued goat. Later that evening they are enjoying their meal while they enjoy musical entertainment. They are suddenly approached by one of Papagayos men who announces that the rifles that Hex brought are useless. The firing pins have been removed from every one of them. Hex is totally surprised as he quickly realizes that he has been set up by Landon. Hex is immediately attacked by Papagayo and his men. A fight ensues as Hex attempts to flee for his life. Using his fighting abilities and lightning speed, Hex is miraculously able to escape from the camp on horseback. He makes a beeline for Wyandott to confront Landon. He arrives in the small town a week later much to the chagrin of the local population. Everyone there assumes that Hex is guilty of murdering Sheriff Baxter and his men. The townspeople attempt to apprehend Hex and he has to flee for his life once more. The epilogue then shows Landon riding up to a barn to meet a mysterious figure. Landon announces that everything has gone according to plan. The figure announces that Landon has served his purpose and guns him down. The figure then reveals that he wants Hex to suffer before he destroys him.
