Jonathan Kent was the foster father of Superman.

Jonathan Kent with his wife Martha helped raise Clark Kent to be the kind of man they expected him to be, to use his superhuman abilities for the cause of good as Superman. During the second Apokolips invasion, Jonathan and Martha believed that their son was alive, though now brainwashed to serve as an emissary of Darkseid. During a rather tense dinner that they had together, Jonathan voiced his objections about his son becoming a mass-murderer, which made Superman so angry that he blasted Jonathan to death with his heat vision. He would never know that his murderer was not really Superman, but a clone that was created by Darkseid and given his memories.
