Jonathan Warren (New Earth)

Johnny Warren was an enforcer for Henry Aquista, one of the prominent mobsters of Gotham, and was charged with retrieving an artifact. In a fight with Robin, his hand was blown off and he fused with the artifact to become the evil sorcerer, Johnny Warlock. Johnny takes over Aquista's gang and when Aquista's daughter, Darla, is killed, uses his powers (and Aquista's life) to resurrect her as Warlock's Daughter. Tasking Darla with killing Robin, Johnny is foiled when Robin tricks him into thinking that Robin is more powerful.

Johnny escapes, and when the Shadowpact draws on magic users to stop the Spectre, volunteers his own powers to the cause. This doesn't prevent them from imprisoning him in the Dark Tower.
