HistoryEdit

U.S. General Marion Higgins, used his son, Lt. Joseph Michael Higgins, to test a suit of armor belonging to the original Shield, a great American hero who disappeared in 1963. Joe Higgins soon discovered that his father's motives were questionable, and the two became enemies. Joe Higgins sought out information about the original Shield, while evading his father's minions, and battling various costumed foes, including Mann-X, the Weapon, and the Gun Club. He worked alongside other heroes such as the Fly. After helping to found the Crusaders, he gave up the role of the Shield. He was replaced by Lt. Michael Barnes.
