Synopsis for "In Blackest Night, Part I"

John Stewart returns to his old neighborhood and seems to be emotionally withdrawn when he is reacquainted with a old high school teacher. Suddenly, robotic alien law-keepers known as the Manhunters land in the city and are looking for John. The Justice League (Flash, J'onn, Hawkgirl, and Superman) arrive to the scene and comes into battle with the Manhunters until John stops both sides and allow to turn himself over to the Manhunters. Baffled by this, the League follow the Manhunters to the planet Ajuris 5, where John is being held on trial for the destruction of Ajuris 5's neighboring planet Ajuris 4. It is reveal by a witness, space pirate Kanjar Ro, who testified that he was smuggling weapons to Ajuris 4 when he was being chased down by John. Their chase led them to Ajuris 4 where John tried to shoot Kanjar Ro with his power ring but only to misfire and hitting a vulnerable part of the planet's crust, causing it to explode and killing its entire inhabitants with it. Aside from the League, no one and including John's comrades of the Green Lantern Corps are willing to defend John, who have already come to the conclusion that he is guilty.
