Synopsis for "But Can an Android Dream?"

Feeling that his unreliability in combat is a danger to the team, Red Tornado resigns from the Justice League, and takes up private life in New York in his John Smith identity. He resumes his relationship with the orphan child, Traya, becomes her legal guardian, and reacquaints himself with his former girlfriend, Kathy Sutton. Simultaneously, the villainous Dr. Destiny, having escaped prison by using his materioptikon to switch places with his visiting psychiatrist, plots to unleash dream-demons on the city. When Red Tornado takes successful action to stop the plan, including defeating a dream-image of himself, his confidence is fully restored, and he rejoins the JLA.
