Keith Kenyon is Goldface, an enemy of Green Lantern and later the Flash.

Origin

Keith Kenyon was a political sciences student who was exposed to a chest of gold that had been affected by toxic waste. As a result of exposure, he gained superhuman strength and invulnerability. The gold also gave him a golden glow, apparently as a side effect of the serum. Of course, being close enough to yellow meant that Green Lantern's power ring could not affect him directly, making him particularly formidable against the super-hero. Deciding to rebel against the wishes of his father, a prominent labor union organizer, he began stealing gold around Coast City, which led to his defeat by Green Lantern. He began to refine his criminal ways by wearing gold-plated armor and using a "gold-gun" which sprays liquid gold.

Later on, he used the science at his disposal to enlarge his body and strengthen his muscles, making him a formidable opponent in hand-to-hand combat against Green Lantern. After many clashes with the hero, Kenyon decided to change his motif and ruthlessly began taking over criminal empires.[1]

Crisis and Aftermath

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Guy Gardner recruited Goldface, and a few more of Green Lantern's villains, for a suicide mission to destroy Qward's moon in the Antimatter Universe and save the positive universe from the Anti-Monitor. When they faced the opposition of the Green Lantern Corps, Goldface attacked and killed Tomar-Re. Their mission failed, and they learned that if they succeeded on destroying the moon, they would have also destroyed the universe they were trying to save. The group then split and started to hunt Guy Gardner. Goldface, however, decided to celebrate his kill alongside Lurlan Dupo, who also killed another Green Lantern. They were ultimately apprehended by a group of Green Lanterns and taken to Oa, where they were locked in the Sciencells.[2]

Some time later, Goldface was freed from the Sciencells by the deranged Guardian Appa Ali Apsa, who started killing other inmates but decided to let Goldface go to bring him more people to keep him company. Keith returned to Earth, never hearing about the Guardian again, and he resumed his criminal activities with his gang,[3] forming a small Interstelar Crime Force,[4], and fighting Guy Gardner repeatedly.[5][6]

Enemy of the Flash

Goldface eventually moved to Central City and became a foe of the Flash, Barry Allen.

In recent years he apparently let go of his villanious ways. After serving his time, he moved to Keystone City and, following in his father's footsteps, became an honest Commissioner of Union 242.[7][8]

Over time, his elixir has slowly turned his skin into an organic golden flesh.[citation needed]

Powers

  • Unique Physiology: Experimentation with a unique brand of undersea gold that's been saturated in ocean water for hundreds of years created a unique brew which gave Keith his super powers over all things made of gold.[9] Improvement of the formula not only made the effects of which permanant, but gave Goldface new powers which he hid behind a placebo weapon.[10] Kenyon has enhanced his body with the use of Aurex Rays to increase his power.[11]
    • Invulnerability: Keith Kenyon is virtually indestructible due to the gold-colored elixir that covers his body.
      • Energy Negation: Kenyon once boasted a form of force negation which was resistant to most forms of energy.[9](Formerly)
    • Superhuman Strength: As Goldface, Keith Kenyon possesses superhuman strength. Due to his exposure to Aurex Rays his strength is so strong that he claims that only Superman can stop him.[12]
    • Super Auric Energy: Kenyon also found he could project this effect as a unique form of ultraviolet light.[13](Formerly)
      • Chrysopoeia: Goldface had been saturated an a radial chemical energy from the gold he'd created his elixir from. This gave him the ability to transmute anything he focused on into pure gold.[9](Formerly)

Abilities

Weaknesses

  • Power Instability: His gold potions effects were only temporary, being undone by a counter formula that negates the powers bestowed.(Formerly)
  • Vulnerability to Gold: His augmented body could be undone with the only thing able to bypass the Auric energy within him, Gold.[9]

Equipment

  • Golden armor (to supplement his outer shell)

Weapons

  • Gold Gun: Goldface carries a high-pressure spray-gun that fires a stream of gold that can be shaped as he desires.[19][10]

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
