Synopsis for "To the Stars by Hard Ways"
Joshua Freeman comes to Smallville and tells Nate that Tobias Freeman is dead. He was killed by a man named John Wesley Hardin. Joshua asks Nate to come with him and help him find Hardin. Nate tells Joshua to let it go.
Nate and Mary go see Buffalo Bill Cody do a theatrical show.
Nate leaves the house one night and Jeb enters and talks with Mary. He warns Mary that his gang, now under the leadership of his son, is coming to Smallville to kill Nate.
The gang rides into town, a very quiet town. They see Nate at the center of town and approach him. Joshua comes out as well and tells the gang to look around them. They see men with guns on the rooftops and at their sides. They are surrounded.
A gunfight ensues and the entire gang is killed.
Nate and Mary live out a good life and Joshua becomes a lawyer and sheriff.
