a football-sized scarab that is the sacred form of Khepri, the Egyptian deity of rebirth and creative form of the sun god RA. It is a key for unlocking human potential and is an aid to higher consciousness. It's orgin is a mystery but rumors have it manifasted on its own or it could me Ra itself. But Khepri remained nothing but a Egyptian mythology symbol
It was not until a wizard unlocked the door to the Subtle Realm and started scavenging artefacts inside the labyrinth. He discovered Khepri and dubbed it Scarabaeus. It bonded in October 1941 with the wizards son Louis Sendak turned him into a insect like man with super powers dubbed the Scarab. And fought of sorcerous threats during World War II, sometimes alongside Dr. Fate. When the scarab retired the Scarabaeus was stored away only to be used again after Louis was stepped. Scarabaeus becons to him to be placed on his chest. Saving his owner and becoming the scarab yet again. With the aid of Phantom Stranger Louis learned to tab into his powers and under goes a phoenix-like transformation: he returns to a physical age of 20, and all injuries current and former are healed.
Louis later tried to warn the JSA about the three possible heirs of Dr. Fate and how to find them. But the Scarabaeus is later ribbed of his chest by Mordru turning him back into a normal octogenarian who faints from the shock.
Mordru soon after clobbers the JSA leaving only Stargirl standing. Kent Nelson contacts her and tells her that she must place Louis Sendak's scarab, the Scarabaeus and symbol of Khepri, the Egyptian god of rebirth on Mordru. She manages to sneak up on the arrogant Mordru and makes the connection bringing back Dr. Fate.
Nothing has been heard of the Scarabaeus ever since.
