Synopsis for "Blackest Day"

On Earth, John Constantine sends a final distress call to the Watchtower -- the Justice League's base of operations-- on the moon, informing them that a zombie plague was spreading across the planet, having decimated countless cities and throwing society into chaos. With most of the other super-teams fallen to the undead hordes, including the Titans and Suicide Squad among others, and with Superman on vacation halfway across the universe, the Justice League is all that's left, and may be the best last chance to save the remainder of humanity. Then, the undead hordes break down the door behind Constantine, and rather than let himself be infected, he puts a gun to his head and commits suicide.

On the Watchtower, the corpses of Wonder Woman and Aquaman lay mangled across the debris, as a zombified Flash erratically zooms around the area. In the ventilation shafts above, Hal Jordan notes that Diana was not reanimating, and theorizes that the virus only reanimates humans. He wonders if he will end up like Barry, looking down at his hand, which has a finger bitten off. Trying to get to the medbay, Hal finds the mutilated corpse of Batman, which reanimates and attacks him.

As he fights off Batman and outmaneuvers Flash, Hal makes his way to the teleporting room, where he finds the corpse of Martian Manhunter which lies still, which further proves his theory that the virus only impacts humans. He makes a plan to escape the Watchtower and get Guy Gardner's ring on Earth to stop the infection from taking over his body, despite his doubts about whether or not the zombie Batman and Flash would be smart enough to work the teleporter and follow him there.

Flashbacks reveal that during their regular weekly meeting, Barry had teleported in late, bitten on the arm by a civilian women and seemingly ill, telling his team that something strange was happening on Earth. Despite Hal's objections, Batman made the decision to interrogate him for information rather than try and save him, since he was dying from the virus. However, Barry succumbed to the virus and bit Bruce, before zooming over to Hal and biting off his middle finger, Lantern Ring and all, leaving him powerless to stop the undead speedster from taking out the rest of the League.

As Hal feels the virus start to take over his body and what's left of his mind, the Flash finally catches up to him. The transformation starts in Hal, but the Green Lantern guarantees himself that he won't end up like Barry, and that he doesn't need Gardner's ring-- he still has his own. With that, he lunges at Barry, punching and tearing his way through the speedster's guts, until he finally pulls out his blood-stained Lantern Ring, and declares "On blackest day, with friends turned foe, it's time for you and I to go."

Some time later, the Watchtower is destroyed in a massive explosion. 3 weeks later, Superman returns home, only to discover that all of humanity had been wiped out by the undead, and once again, he was the last survivor of a dead planet.
