Lazarus Lane is the original El Diablo, a heroic vigilante in the Old West. He was a simple bank teller until a gang of criminals nearly killed him and he was struck by lightning. The mystic shaman Wise Owl revived him, and Lane became host to a demon that acted as a "Spirit of Vengeance." While his mind slept, the demon would take over his body to become El Diablo and hunt the wicked. Lazarus Lane was created by Robert Kanigher and Gray Morrow, first appearing in All-Star Western (Volume 2) #2. (1970)
