Synopsis for "The Oblivion Factor"

A crazed ex-Green Beret named McGill activated ten intercontinental ballistic missiles at A.R.M.S. Control Central. Although the new Shield, Steven Barnes, had subdued McGill (who had taken General Regal hostage), he had only ten minutes to stop a self destruct system from exploding the missiles. Although a former member of the Gun Club, Barnes had only worn the armor of the Shield for three weeks. He found himself pushed to the limit as he fought through a series of automated defense measures. Along the way he encountered, barely conscious, his former Gun Club teammate Bogey Cooper, who had already failed to stop the self destruct sequence. Without a second to spare, he tripped the breaker, disarming the system, and then fell unconscious.

Later, at home with his wife and child, he was approached by Web Agent Buster Thomas, who assigned him to join a special task force comprised of super-heroes -- the Crusaders.
