Synopsis for "Lights, Camera and Too Much Action"

Rita Farr gets an invitation from producer-director Bill Daniels to star in his next motion picture - a western. She is reluctant to return to Hollywood, but the Chief persuades her that the whole Doom Patrol should go, as they deserve a break. However, once on set, Rita finds herself under attack first from a mad robot and then by a ghostly octopus, both of which require the whole Patrol to defeat.

The Chief deduces that the attacks are no coincidences, and Bill Daniels confesses that he had his special effects man, Ivor, whip the apparitions up in order to get footage of the Doom Patrol in action, which would be far more commercially valuable than any normal movie. It is then discovered that Ivor is actually Ivvorr, who was sent by an alien race to see whether Earth is ripe for invasion. Naturally, the skill of the Doom Patrol persuades him that the planet should be left well alone.

Synopsis for "The Caged Bird"

The carrier pigeon used in communication between Commissioner Emmett and the Hawks is rather fed up with being used in this way, and a number of other birds begin to sympathize with him, feeling that they are not paid enough attention to, given how hard they work for the heroes. They encounter some large eagles who say they agree, and will help if they are freed, which will happen if they are given some masks by the birds. The birds retrieve said masks, but the eagles turn into the evil Man-Hawks, and in attacking Hawkman and Hawkwoman kill one of the birds that freed them. The birds recognize their mistake and help to defeat the Man-Hawks, though they receive little gratitude for this.

Synopsis for "Puzzle of the Phantom Spaceman"

Adam Strange arrives on Rann (via Zeta-Beam) to find he is invisible and intangible, unable to prevent his love Alanna from being captured by Qkaras, an enemy of Alanna's father Sardath. He had been plotting with Darkseid to destroy the Earth through allying the Q-force with the Zeta-Beam - it was lucky that Strange interrupted the beam before it hit the Earth.

Strange finds that discharges from Q-force weapons deflect off his intangible form due to the residual energy in his own body, and uses this to destroy the kidnapper's ship, just in time to say hello to Alanna before the Zeta Beam wears off and he is transported back to Earth to await the next time he returns.

Synopsis for "Falling in Line"

Amateur time-traveler Rip Hunter proves a constant nightmare for the Linear Men, who constantly have to make sure he doesn't cause any irreconcilable time-paradoxes. After a ridiculous number of interventions, Liri Lee finally decides the only way to stop his menace is to induct him as one of the linear men and train him in the responsible use of time travel. The others are dubious, but acquiesce.
