History

The original Legion of Doom was formed by Henry King, Jr, the deranged former hero Brainwave as a result of his increasing psychosis, caused by unresolved guilt issues concerning his deceased supervillain father, the original Brain-Wave. King recruited Houngan to revive the deceased Major Force for his team, and also recruited Killer Frost and two of the Madmen, Fleeter and Stiller, as well as constructing a robotic duplicate of Gorilla Grodd. He led his team against Captain Atom's short lived branch of the Justice League, but they were defeated when Maxima realized that Brainwave was mentally ill and forced him to confront his delusions.

A second, short lived version of the Legion including Inertia, Headcase, Sun Girl, the Persuader, Indigo and Zookeeper was later formed by Superboy-Prime and went up against the Teen Titans, but was defeated.

This section of the history takes place during Flashpoint, a massive crossover event set in an alternate timeline to the mainstream DCU. History was completely changed when Professor Zoom finally found a way to erase his nemesis the Flash without harming his own legacy.

In the temporary reality created by the Reverse Flash during the Flashpoint event, a third Legion was created by the villain Heat Wave, who attempted to use the team to destroy Detroit in order to get revenge on the hero Cyborg, but Heat Wave was betrayed by his teammate Plastic Man, who refused to be a party to the murder of millions of innocent civilians.
