History
The Lightning Beasts of Korbal are predatory animals native to the barren world of Korbal. In the late 30th Century, a malfunctioning shuttlecraft carrying the Ranzz family crash-landed on Korbal. Garth Ranzz attempted to lure the beasts to the ship, hoping that their bio-electric abilities might recharge their ship's engines. Instead of striking the ship however, lightning bolts from the beasts hit Garth and his siblings Mekt and Ayla, imbuing all three of them with the ability to generate lightning from their bodies. Garth went on to become a founding member of the Legion of Super-Heroes known as Lightning Lad. Mekt disappeared into the underworld only to resurface later as the leader of the Legion of Super-Villains - Lightning Lord. When Lightning Lad died in battle, Ayla took his place using the alias Lightning Lass.
