Synopsis for "Red Water Crimson Death"
This story is reprinted from The Brave and the Bold #93.
In a tale narrated by Cain from House of Mystery, Batman slips up and almost gets himself killed trying to stop a normal thug, and is forced to go on vacation by Commissioner Gordon, who believes Batman is heading towards a total burn out. Reluctantly taking the Commissioner's advice, Batman (in his civilian guise of Bruce Wayne) takes a boat cruise in which he saves a small boy named Sean who falls overboard. Going along with the boy to his home of Arin Island, Bruce finds that mystical forces are working to have him solve a mystery on the island as Batman.
Learning of a local legend of the red sea that has killed many (including Sean's parents) and the supposed cases of haunting on the island, Batman soon learns that it is businessman Alysius Cabot. Cabot is really dumping chemicals into the water that is causing people to die and is using technology to play on peoples superstitions. When Batman confronts Cabot, Cabot tries to poison the Caped Crusader, however, Batman finds the antidote and before Cabot can shoot him, a picture frame falls knocking him out. Finally, without much understanding of all the inexplicable events that happened, Batman then takes Sean to safety.

Synopsis for "The Batman Nobody Knows!"
This story is reprinted from Batman #250.
Bruce Wayne takes a group of children out on a camping trip and learns from them three different images they have of the Batman. After listening to all their stories, Bruce decides to surprise them by appearing as Batman, but the kids dismiss Bruce's attempt as a playful joke and they don't believe that Batman can be just a simple man. When the kids go to sleep, Batman realizes that his image is only frightening to those who have a guilty conscience, not to those who are innocent.

Synopsis for "The Demon of Gothos Mansion!"
This story is reprinted from Batman #227.
Alfred receives a letter from his niece Daphne, saying she is a teacher to children at Gothos Mansion but thinks there is something strange. Batman decides to investigate and once he arrives at the place, he is attacked by some men, but easily defeats them. He then gets into Daphne's room, where she tells him she has discovered the children were Dwarves and she is forced to wear ancient clothes. On the wall there's a portrait of a girl who looks exactly like Daphne. Batman breaks the lock and opens the door of the room in order to leaves the room. However, he steps outside the room into a hallway and he falls through a trapdoor into a net.
The Elder Heathrow and his men bind Batman's hands and he is placed on a stone with a noose round his neck. In about a quarter of an hour it will drop into the cellar and Batman will be hanged. He tells Batman that as Daphne was born at precisely midnight on October 31st he will sacrifice her to summon the demon Ballk, which his family has waited six generations to do. He claims an ancestor of his did so also and the spirit of the sacrifice walks these halls. When he is left to die, Batman tenses his neck muscles to prevent strangulation and by swinging catches a torch with his feet and burns through the rope. He proceeds to free his hands on the flame and he goes outside of the building. In the dark grounds of Gothos Mansion, he sees a girl he mistakes for Daphne but she says she is not her. She leads him to the coven in an old chapel and he finds himself loving her.
Inside the chapel, Daphne is bound and gagged, standing on the altar while the coven chants. She is forced down and the Elder prepares to slay her with a pitchfork. However Batman enters and puts an end to the sacrifical ceremony. As the coven attacks, he throws the Elder to them and they run out. The Elder dies and Batman deduces that his heart couldn't take it. Batman unties Daphne, telling her to go to the mansion as he goes out to meet the girl that guided him, but she says in besting the coven he has freed her and disappears into the night. Finally, Batman finds the image of the girl similar to Daphe fixed to a tree.

Synopsis for "A Vow from the Grave!"
This story is reprinted from Detective Comics #410.
Batman in on the trail of an escaped killer on the outskirts of Gotham and he manages to corner the criminal in a rocky area, but he is attacked by a big man, who allows the killer to escape. Batman is forced to confront the big man and he manages to knock the juggernaut unconscious. At that moment, Batman meets three more people, all of which are physically different. Their leader explains that they used to be circus freaks and that they retired to live in seclusion. They also inform Batman that the big man, whose name is Goliath, didn't intend to attack him, but despite their explanations, the killer is on the loose and Batman continues his seach.
Moments later, Batman stumbles upon an abandoned town hall, which is being used as the freaks' home. When the fat lady screams in despair, Batman investigates and learns that the thin man had been hanged a few moments prior. After this, Batman notices that the escaped killer is just outside the place and he captures the criminal, taking him inside. Unfortunately, Batman has deduced that the killer didn't murder the thin man, but that the crime was committed by the Goliath, seeking to eliminate his competitor for the fat lady's affections.
Batman follows Goliath to the belltower, where he threatens to drop the seal-boy unless Batman jumps down first. Batman complies, tricking Goliath, who in turn tosses "Flippy" and he is rescued by Batman, who was still hanging with help from his Batrope. Afterwards, Batman confronts Goliath and the killer, both of whom started to work together against a common enemy, and Batman gets help from the fat lady and Flippy. Like this, Batman manages to capture two killers and as dawn breaks, he takes them back to meet their justice.
