History

M'yri'ah was born the daughter of D'all centuries ago on the planet Mars.

M'yri'ah was present during the final days of the Green Martian civilization on Mars. Her mad brother-in-law, Ma'alefa'ak, orchestrated a telepathic plague that swept across the planet, killing all Green Martians who attempted to use their powers. M'yri'ah's husband, J'onn, tried to keep her from using her ability, but she was unable to resist mentally reaching out to her ill daughter, K'hym. M'yri'ah contracted the plague (commonly referred to as H'ronmeer's Curse) and died soon after. J'onn was responsible for disposing of his wife's remains.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Many, if not all of M'yri'ah's powers and abilities are common to members of her race, even if demonstration of such abilities has not been explicitly shown in a canonical resource.

Genetically Modified Martian Physiology: Martians possess psionic control over their physical form, even down to the molecular level. As a form of shape-shifting, this power enables a Martian to contort his or her physical structure allowing them to adopt human form, elongate their limbs, grow to immense size, and so on. Martians can maintain their selected form for an indeterminate amount of time without undue risk or strain.

  • Shape-Shifting, Malleability, Plasticity, Elongation: The most incredible of the powers of the Manhunter is the ability to shape-shift. He is able to literally control the molecular structure of his body's bio-polymer and make it resemble anything he wants. He can form clothing, weapons with nonmoving or nonfunctioning parts. There does not seem to be any limit to the number of people the Manhunter can imitate and has stood in as a double for many famous people. His ability to imitate people and their mannerisms has stood him in good stead for his disguises. He has recently been seen to shape-shift into the size and shape of a common house fly and to enormous sizes comparable to skyscrapers. He is also able to change colors.
  • Invisibility: A byproduct of shape-shifting, Martians possess the ability to bend waves of light around them, rendering them invisible to most forms of human detection. Through this, they can also alter their body's temperature, allowing them to become invisible to most forms of electronic detection.
  • Phasing: No physical explanation of this power make sense except that it is an aspect of her psionic powers shifting her mass into another dimension or out of vibrational phase with other objects in this dimension.[original research?]
  • Superhuman Durability: With the exception of fire, a Green Martian is invulnerable to nearly all physical attacks. This is due primarily to their shape-shifting talents and his ability to increase the density of his molecular structure
  • Superhuman Strength: While the exact magnitude of a Martian's strength is unknown, it is generally accepted that their strength levels easily surpass the capacity to lift 100 tons. This ranks them in the same strength level as a Kryptonian under a yellow sun
  • Superhuman Endurance: Martian's endurance is just as formidable as his or her strength or invulnerability. When not in the presence of fire, a Martian can operate under extreme conditions for an indeterminate period of time without showing signs of fatigue. The exact range of this power is unknown. When in the presence of fire, a Martian's endurance diminishes greatly.
  • Flight: Martians can defy gravity and fly through sheer force of will. This abiity is psionic in nature, and functions similarly to tactile telekinesis.
  • Extrasensory Input: A Martian possesses nine different senses.
  • Longevity
  • Super Hearing
  • Super Breath: The ability to create hurricane force winds by blowing.
  • Martian Vision: A Martian possesses super-powered eyesight, commonly referred to as "Martian Vision". Martian Vision is similar to Kryptonian heat vision in that it can cause combustible objects to explode.
  • Infared Vision
  • X-Ray Vision
  • Electro-Magnetic Spectrum Vision
  • Telescopic Vision
  • Microscopic Vision
  • Heat Vision
  • Telepathy: A Green Martian possesses the ability to read the minds of others and project his or her thoughts to varying degrees. Martians can also project their mental essences into a gestalt community known as the "Great Mind". Through this, they can use their telepathy to enhance the telepathic strength of other Martians. A Martian's expertise with telepathy varies from Martian to Martian. Some Martians, such as J'onn J'onnz, can use their ability with such precision that they can extract repressed memories from a subject regardless of how dormant the memory may lie. This power can also enable a Martian to reverse the effects of amnesia or psychological brainwashing. Martians can also use their telepathy to alter a subject's psychological profile, enabling them to manipulate, and in some cases, outright control their chosen target. This practice is greatly discouraged however, and only rarely used.

    Strength level

Superhuman by Earth standards; normal by Martian standards.

Weaknesses

Psychic Pyrophobia: All Martians have a genetic weakness against fire. The only thing that can harm a Martian is intense exposure to super-heated plasma. This weakness operates as both a physical limitation as well as a psychological one. A psychosomatic symptom of this fear is a loss of their telepathic capabilities, as well as control over their physical form.

Trivia

  • As many Martian names bear phonetic similarities to Anglican Earth names, M'yri'ah's name is likely pronounced "Mariah" or "Maria", albeit with a distinctive dialect.
