Synopsis for "Exodus Noir Part Four: Sins of the Fathers"

Madame Xanadu continues to help Catherine Shepard in trying to solve the mystery of her father’s death. While investigating Richard Miller’s house, she encounters The Sandman. After brief words, she departs with several items which she uses in a brew that helps her see the past – Spain, 1495!

Madame Xanadu sees the history of a shepherd, a farmer, and a miller unfold. She sees their persecution by the holy inquisition, and how they are forced to become spies. They turn in a blacksmith for “bowing in prayer five times a day.” But the blacksmith’s uncle is said to be a powerful sorcerer, and they soon find themselves under attack. They fled, for generations, always just barely escaping the Arab. Recalling back to 1493 when she lived in Spain, Madame Xanadu thinks about her lover Marisol, and when Tomás de Torquemada’s men captured her.

Notes

This story takes place in 1940, and features flashbacks to 1493 Spain and 1495 Spain.
